Text Box: My first introduction to the 95th Rifles was via this website and initial contact with Adam, the societies recruiting Sergeant. A friendly exchange of emails led me to my first event at Blenheim Palace. The weeks leading to this event were full of friendly chatter and advise on the forum pages so by the time the Blenheim Palace event arrived I was already feeling welcome. This event was a Battle Prom, the first Battle Prom I had attended. I never thought I’d attend one as part of the entertainment! I arrived just as camp set up had begun and was warmly welcomed and shown the ropes (literally, tent ropes, lots of them!). I put some faces to names and it was a pleasure to be immediately taken into the 95th family. Adam and Jim (the Sergeant and Quartermaster) had taken care to find me a billet, suitable for a lone female, with Jan, who had more baskets, boxes and bottles crammed into her car (and trailer) than I thought possible to fit into our tent, but in it all went and Jan created a very comfortable home from home. I knew from the forum conversations that the Battle Prom was a dressy affair for the ladies to promenade amongst the crowd, and the ladies of the 95th had brought spare everything! From dresses and jewellery to fans and tiaras, which were generously lent to those of us without such accoutrements, along with a word or two about what to do with them, how to wear them and how to use them to our best advantage! Lynn supplied a quick lesson on ‘how to’ promenade through the crowd, spot a photographer and casually pose for them, adding atmosphere and colour to an event for the public.
