As a society we specialise in Napoleonic Battle Re-enactment and Living History in the United Kingdom and Overseas. Our group has grown over the years to represent something of an experimental corp, with both light infantry and horse artillery deployed on the battlefield to compliment each other in our aim to put on a very entertaining show that is fun for both the audience and its participants. We are one of the most successful independent re-enactment groups in the world with recognition not only from major sponsors such as The National Trust, English Heritage, BBC and Channel 4 but also from ‘The Rifles’ of the modern British Army.
“I can only wonder at the enthusiasm and dedication that these people show and I feel proud that I can call them fellow Riflemen” Major Terry Roper - The Rifles (previously The Royal Green Jackets)
We are recruiting now! Interested? Read on…
Within our group is a Rifle Company (The 95th Rifles) and what we have come to call our ‘Artillery Park’, which consists of a three pounder galloper gun (Royal Horse Artillery) and various rocket launchers (Experimental Rocket Corp), in addition to our camp followers. Depending where your interests lie you can learn the drill and battlefield tactics of the 95th Rifles, Royal Horse Artillery and Rocket Troop by experiencing them first hand! Learn how the Baker Rifle, Cannon and Rockets work with the chance of practical experience under the supervision of one of our experts! You can concentrate on one or all of these.
At ‘Newstead Abbey’ (Newstead, Nottinghamshire) on the 25th - 26th May we are holding another unmissable recruitment opportunity for the 2008 re-enactment season. The event allows you to experience re-enactment without any financial investment or obligation to join the society at the end of it. You can come along for the weekend, just the one day or even an afternoon, it’s entirely up to you. Your experience could range from simply meeting the society to actually taking an active part as a rifleman, artilleryman or camp follower.
The regiment provides catering and accommodation. Accommodation is free and catering (which includes breakfast, lunches, an evening meal and beverages throughout the day) costs a mere £4 per day! The only other expense is your travel!
Should you decide to go the whole hog and experience re-enactment to its fullest you will be kitted out in the uniform or clothing of your chosen role and billeted in one of the many period canvas tents that make up our authentic Napoleonic encampment. No matter what role you choose you will be guaranteed a fulfilling experience.
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity! Take a good look around the website: watch our video footage and check out the photos of recruitment events from the 2007 season at Thrumpton Hall and Euston Hall. Visit the Joining pages now! Read the Overview, FAQ pages and Profiles of two of our current members to find answers to all your burning questions. You can also get in touch with current experienced riflemen, artillerymen and camp followers by using our forum. When you’re ready to experience re-enactment first hand, contact us via our Online Recruitment Form to apply for a place at the event of your choice.
Once you decide which event you’d like to attend we’re here to help you get there and have an experience that’s second to none! At the very least you will meet new friends and have a damn good time!
If you can’t make Newstead Abbey but you’re still interested in joining, no problem! As the year progresses other opportunities will be advertised, this is just one of them! Take a look at our events diary and let us know which events are good for you!
I look forward to hearing from you in the near future!
